DIY partners in crime

18 Jan

My daddio and I make a great team. Mostly because I have these fabulously ignorant dreams of painting furniture and rehabbing old picture frames, and my dad actually possess some semblance of painting know-how.

Sanding- lots of sanding; and even fewer fingernails were spared.

2 coats of primer.

crafty little devil

13 Oct

First thing’s first. I am not crafty. I am, however, very very broke. So as a result I am teaching myself to become crafty.

I like new things, but due to the *ahem* lack of funds, instead of buying new things, I am making old things new.

This is my fist attempt, so please don’t laugh.

Before: (yes, it’s upside down) -4

After (part one): I removed the old fabric and stapled the new fabric and ribbon on. I purchased the fabric online through purl. It came in a day and I was so excited to get it! -1

After (part 2): I made my fabric covered buttons using a kit I purchased at JoAnn’s and superglued them over the staples where the ribbon intersects. It is so cute and I cannot wait to hang it! This project was a perfect confidence booster, was no-sew (thank GOD!) and was less than $10!-3

errr… duvet?

apparently the one thing I cannot seem to find in my decorating dilemma is a plain white duvet cover. for under $80. no stripes, no lines, no ivory.

who knew it would be such a challenge?

Furniture Freak-out

4 Mar

I moved out of my old house and into an apartment with a girlfriend from elementary school. She practically furnished the entire apartment (which I was oh-so-thankful for), but it left me just staring at my room hating my stuff. All of my furniture I have had for 4 years. My bed is just a mattress and box spring on a metal frame. My over-sized desk and dresser are two different woods (cheap ones). Nothing goes. I want so badly to have beautiful bedding, nicely framed photographs and fantastic shelving.

***Update***

Upside: I now have a glorious bathroom… filled with carribean blue and choclate browns. And I did it on < $50!

Downside: I sold my soul to Potterybarn for some bedding. Love the look, hate the price.
